The second Oxford Juggling Convention is this Saturday. I can’t go but hopefully it will be a good one. Did you enjoy Stumpy’s spot as compère of Lestival? I did – I thought he was really good, a very pleasant surprise. Nearly twenty years ago I was at circus school at the same time as a chap called James Brommage. Here is a routine he did on TV (I can’t embed it here I’m afraid, so you will have to follow the link). Seem familiar? I don’t know whether Stumpy took his inspiration directly from James, but I do know that, Frank Spencer impression apart, James’s act was far from original, which just goes to show how good so-called ‘hackneyed’ material can be if it is executed well enough. Clubbz has nothing to do with clubs that you juggle with. Which is good because ‘Clubbz’ is a truly naff name. Instead it’s one of those aggregator websites, on this occasion collecting information about clubs and societies and then pointing that information at students and the like. Leicester Jugglers now have a Clubbz page. It’s awful, but we have to stay down wiv da kidz. Summer is on its way, and that means we will soon be shutting down for our too, too long vacation layoff. All juggling club times can be found on the meetings page, but for now the key thing is that we have only three more dates scheduled, Thursday 10th, Thursday 17th and Thursday 24th June, from 6pm to 9.45pm. Please make sure you come to both of them! UPDATE : I have asked Phil to see if he can get us some more dates between now and the end of term. Watch this space. The third Leicester Circus Festival came and went on Saturday, and at last we enjoyed a proper decent turnout and at the third time of trying made a profit. I think we probably had around 180 people there altogether, the kiosk did a roaring trade, the theatre and atrium were just nicely packed pretty much all day long, the games seemed to go down well, I gave two workshops that I couldn’t believe worked so well and had such good attendance, and Stumpy turned out to be an ace compère and rawked the show for us. All in all pretty good. I didn’t take a single one myself, but here are some photos :- Silver’s shots of Stumpy’s pratfall. Silver’s photoset (may require dreaded FB login). Here’s the IJDb’s feed of the rec.juggling thread. I’ll add more as and when they arrive. By a tortuously convoluted and improbable route I found this page featuring a mug shot – somewhere – of Leicester Jugglers’ very own Matt Perry. |
