We would like to hire a Students Union minibus and organise a trip to a convention or two, hopefully at minimal cost. There are some options coming up :-

TLC 2010 The London (Juggling) Convention, Saturday 13th November, The Circus Space, Hoxton, London.

The Milton Keynes Juggling Convention, Saturday 20th November, Hazeley School, Milton Keynes.

The Leeds Juggling Convention, Saturday 4th December, Left Bank Leeds, Cardigan Road, Leeds.

London will be the most expensive, especially if you dare to come by car, will likely have the least space and juggling time, but will also benefit from the best show and takes place in Britain’s foremost circus school, in a converted power station in in super-cool hipster hangout Hoxton.

Milton Keynes is the newest regional one-dayer to arrive on the scene, and since it is their first year they could do with all the support they can get. It is also one of our nearest neighbouring conventions.

Leeds has traditionally been one of the biggest one-dayers, at one point pulling in something like 400 attendees. They have been running on and off for quite a number of years now, but I believe they are in a new venue this year. Leeds benefits from a surfeit of bonkers good juggling talents such as the Cabry Brothers, Tiff, Lewis Kennedy, the Turner Brothers, and so on, so there’s a good chance their show will feature some hardcore numbers and technical juggling.

A convention trip would likely consist of a reasonably early start for a bus trip to wherever the event is taking place, a whole day of playing, talking, eating, drinking, learning, buying shinies, and normally a show at the end of the day, followed by a trip home again, probably arriving pretty late.

If you have never been to a convention before then they can be pretty amazing places to go, with juggling and other skills at standards you very likely will not have encountered before, lots and lots of space to play in and people to play with, traders stalls groaning with goodies at discount prices, and all sorts of other surprises.

If you think you might be interested in joining in then please speak to Logan, Jay, Jon, or anyone else who seems to know what they are talking about.

Further details of most UK events can be found by using the event calendar which can be found in the ‘Pages’ menu in the right sidebar.

We have been meeting up on Victoria Park on Wednesday evenings, and will probably continue to do so until the new term starts.

Meetings start at around 5:30 or 6:00 (early because it gets dark early) and finish when people get bored or cold, or just can’t see any more. Weather permitting we meet near the corner of the park where Victoria Park Road meets London Road, conveniently close to the Old Horse Pub. Meetings so far have been very informal affairs ideally suited to beginners, or people who like sitting around watching other people expend energy for a change. Bring food, drink, and toys, if you can be bothered; just turn up and loaf if you can’t.
